Do
you know what you want out of life? Or do you know what you do not
want from life? Have you considered what you can do to achieve
your goals, or do you know what you can do to avoid what you don't
want?
Great
if you have answered 'yes' to any of the above as you have already
started your journey to success.
Some
people have an innate sense of purpose, a self-belief that they can
do anything if they put their mind to it. But even among these
people, not all of them are able to ultimately identify how they can
achieve the things that they want.
Let's
say for example that you don't enjoy your job all of the time. Parts
of it are OK, but parts of it are repetitive and boring. So what can
you do about that? If you stay in the same role for very much longer,
you will lose your mind because you can do the job standing on your
head with your eyes closed...
You
could find a similar role but with a different employer. Maybe that
would work, but ask yourself how long it would take before you find
yourself in the same place as you are now – bored and frustrated.
You
could try and find something completely different to broaden your
opportunities and offer a greater challenge. That's possible, but do
have the experience required from an employer's perspective to be
able to secure the position you want in the time-frame required?
Can
you identify exactly what drives you? Is it flexibility, a challenge,
money or a combination of all three? Is paid employment and the
restrictions that naturally come with that going to deliver against
all of your needs? Or could you work on a business of your own on the
side to start to deliver against the personal challenges you want and
generate more money at the same time?
If
you've identified what drives you, the answer to the final question
might surprise you. Don't consider that you don't have the experience
to set up your own business, or that you don't have sufficient
expertise in a subject to do the same. Don't let “I can't” enter
your mind!
You
are your own person, with your own personality. You have great
friends who love talking to you and that proves you have something
unique to offer...
So what's stopping you from looking around at self-employment? List what you want, list what you're good at and list what you always enjoy doing – you have the ambition and determination to go out and make it happen, so what's stopping you?
